Know which moves are legal
Before thinking about strategy, learn the entry rule, safe spaces, blocks and finishing requirements for your version. Advice based on a different mode can lead to decisions that are not available in your game.
Look beyond one token
After a roll, check every eligible token. Moving the furthest token is not always the only useful option. You might bring another token into play, reach safety or make progress towards home.
Notice nearby opponents
Count the spaces between your vulnerable tokens and nearby opponents. This helps you understand potential captures, but you cannot know the next dice result. Treat the information as a way to compare choices, not a prediction.
Balance progress and flexibility
Having more than one token available can create options on later turns. At the same time, a token close to home may benefit from an exact roll. Which choice makes sense depends on the board position and the mode’s rules.
Review a decision after the game
Pick one turn and ask what other legal moves were available. This is more useful than deciding a move was wrong solely because the next roll was unlucky.
Keep expectations realistic
Dice introduce chance. Practice can help you understand the game and make decisions, but no move or trick guarantees a win. Choose a pace that keeps the session enjoyable for everyone.
