Know the objective
Start by asking what counts as a win in the version you are playing. A full traditional game usually aims to bring every token home, while a quick or team format can use different conditions. Read the instructions for the specific app mode.
Identify your colour and path
Find your starting yard, the entry point to the shared track and your home path. Following the route before the first roll is easier than learning it while deciding a move.
Ask about the entry roll
Many familiar rules require a six to bring a token out. Confirm whether your group uses that rule and whether another roll follows. Also ask what happens when a player rolls several sixes in a row.
Choose one move at a time
After each roll, check which tokens can legally move. Consider whether a move reaches safety, threatens an opponent or advances a token towards home. There may be several reasonable choices, and the next roll remains uncertain.
Keep the first session relaxed
Try a local or practice game before public matchmaking. If you are playing with friends, agree to explain unclear moves rather than rushing. A friendly first game helps everyone learn the controls and rules together.
